About Braces

No "models" were used. All patients shown are our actual patients. Together we'll create a beautiful smile.

Braces are worn by people of all ages - from children to adults - for two purposes: to create a nicer smile and to prevent dental health problems such as gum disease and loss/damage to teeth which can be caused by improper tooth alignment and function.  Dr. Gilbert, an Orthodontist, is a Dental Specialist who deals with the diagnosis and correction of misaligned teeth and improper bites.  Dr. Gilbert will use his special training and experience to achieve a healthy bite and create the beautiful smile that you deserve.

There are many possible benefits of Orthodontics for patients of all ages. This includes a more attractive smile, an increase in the health and proper function of the teeth and gums and importantly, an improved self-image.  Much depends upon the individual's growth patterns, genetics, oral health and cooperation in achieving treatment goals.

Types of Treatment

Comprehensive treatment for children and adults involves the correction of alignment and function in one continuous process.  This type of treatment involves the use of full braces and specialized appliances to achieve the overall treatment goals.

Phase I treatment, or what is commonly called Early Intervention, is for a small group of young patients with very specific problems.  By addressing these problems early, Dr. Gilbert can reduce the future difficulty of the patient's comprehensive care and limit current damage to the teeth and/or gums.  Subsequent comprehensive care normally begins after additional growth and development occurs. Breaks between Phase I treatment and Comprehensive care varies greatly and is dependent upon each individual's rate of development.

For many of our older patients who have experienced loss or damage to their teeth, and for our younger patients who are born with congenitally missing teeth, supportive treatment has the additional treatment goal of positioning the remaining teeth in a manner that improves your family dentist's ability to repair and/or replace the affected teeth.  This involves coordination between Dr. Gilbert and your family dentist to produce the best possible results.

Dr. Gilbert looks forward to working with you to create a beautiful, healthy smile.  Together, we can create the smile that you'll be proud to share.
